A Special Visit

Marsha and I were excited to get together with Brother Joe last week. He was in Philadelphia for a pharmaceutical convention, and we welcomed the chance to get to gether with one of our Dixie relatives.

We had a marvelous time strolling around old city Philadelphia, and negotiating one way streets and dead ends on our improvised motor tour. Unfortunately, I did not grab any pictures at the time. I did find some nice photos, courtesy of the Plough And Stars pub, however. This is where Joe treated us for dinner. Marsha and I enjoyed ourselves thoroughly, and we hope to have a chance to return the favor, soon. Thanks for the visit, little brother!

R is for Rock Rat (Redux)

We now have actual pictures of the Laotian Rock Squirrel, or rock rat. This creature was thought to be extinct, until it was discovered in a Laotian meat market.

You can see more photos and a video at http://www.rinr.fsu.edu/rockrat/

J is for Jammerbugt

No, Jammerbugt is not some new Danish rock band (be a good name, though). It is the name given to a dune on Mars where the rover Opportunity was recently stuck. This is the second time that this rover has become dune bound, and the Earth side techies were able to recognize the problem and back Opportunity away from the dune without much difficulty. The rover is now continuing towards the crater "Victoria". So far, Opportunity has traveled nearly 5 miles in its 2 plus years of exploration.

Jammerbugt, by the way, takes its name from Denmark's "Bay of Wailing" - famous for wrecking many ships in its treacherous waters.

W is for Wine

Sorry, but you want find these labels at your favorite wine shop. These were Marsha's final project for her Computer graphics class (These were done with Adobe Illustrator). Unfortunately, the colors do not come out correctly on the web.

Erin doesn't have to worry about new competition, though. Marsha said that doing graphic design is too much work. Programming, now that is easy.

Garden Trek: The Next Generation

Star Date 6163.5: I have beamed down to an unexplored planet in the Erial system to study its alien life forms.
Maybe I can mind meld with this strange creature?

The Hydroponics lab has nothing like this!

Why do these planets never have toilets?

These sunflowers are as big as me!

Maybe just one bite?

One to beam up.
